Sony Launches Shotgun Microphone ECM-G1 Perfect for Vlogging

New Microphone Offers High Quality Sound, Anywhere, Anytime
Sony introduces the new small and lightweight ECM-G1 microphone that enhances the standard of video recording through high-quality sound collection. With ambient sound suppression and clear frontal sound collection, users can enjoy excellent sound quality when capturing content.

Enhance standard of video recording with high quality sound
Clear, high-quality sound plays an important role when capturing content for video. The ECM-G1 boasts a large-diameter (approx. 14.6 mm) microphone capsule, providing clear sound collection whilst suppressing noise, greatly improving the quality of video production.

The ECM-G1 is the perfect microphone for vlogging as it captures clear voices, includes a wind screen to reduce wind noise when shooting outdoors and has an optimised structure to suppress frequency vibration noise with anti-vibration dampers. When connected to a Sony camera equipped with the Multi Interface (MI) shoe, the cable- less design even eliminates cable-transmitted vibration noise.

Ambient sound suppression and clear frontal sound collection
Clear sound collection from in front of the camera is emphasized with super-cardioid [i] and ambient sound suppressed to ensure only wanted audio is captured – great for selfie shooting. Even when shooting indoors, the ECM-G1 is highly effective at reducing echo pickup from walls and voice reverberation resulting in clear conversation sound collection.

Enjoy high quality sound anywhere, anytime
MI Shoe support enables greater flexibility with battery-free and cable-free shooting. The power is supplied directly from the camera to the microphone so no issues with the battery running out or cables in the way – even when shooting with the vari-angle LCD monitor open horizontally.

The ECM-G1 is ultra light, weighing just 34 g, and very compact (W x H x D: 28.0 mm x 50.8 mm x 48.5 mm) so can be used anywhere, anytime.

Lastly, a recording cable [ii] is included for ease and the microphone jack [iii] is compatible [iv] with a wide range of devices [v], such as cameras and smartphones, giving users the ultimate flexibility for various shooting requirements.

Pricing and Availability
The new ECM-G1 will be available in September 2022 at a variety of Sony’s authorised dealers, for an estimated retail price of €170 EUROS.

Sony FX3 Released Firmware 2.00

Sony FX3 released firmware 2.00, and you can download a copy of it here.

Precautions when updating from Ver.1.01 or earlier

After updating to this version, the camera settings will be reset to the default values.
Note: Since this update adds functions and makes major specification changes, the camera settings will be initialized as part of the update process. It is recommended that you make note of all the camera settings before proceeding. Even if you have saved the settings using the various save features available (such as Save/Load Settings and Save/Load FTP Settings) the settings before Ver.1.01 cannot be read by the camera after the upgrade to Ver.2.00.
With the addition of the log shooting mode, the picture profiles were reviewed and the gamma setting S-Log2 is no longer included. After the update, you will need to use the gamma setting S-Log3.
You will be able to connect to the Imaging Edge Mobile app more easily. After pairing the app with the camera, you can transfer images and shoot remotely just by operating the app. Refer to Pairing the camera with a smartphone (Smartphone Regist.) in the Help Guide for detail. Along with this, the NFC one-touch connection function used up to Ver.1.01 of the camera will no longer be available.
Note: You will also need to update the Imaging Edge Mobile app to Ver.7.7 or later, and register as a new camera after the update.

Benefits and Improvements

Adds log shooting mode, which allows you to shoot while displaying the monitor image with your favorite LUT (Look-Up Table).
Note: Please use the latest version of Catalyst Browse or Catalyst Prepare to apply the LUT used for monitoring during shooting to the video during editing.
- Cine EI: A shooting mode that allows you to shoot with two Base ISO settings that can express clear images with the maximum dynamic range and suppressed noise.
- Cine EI Quick: A shooting mode in which movies are recorded using a Base ISO, as is the case with the Cine EI mode, but the Base ISO switches automatically according to the adjusted EI value.
- Flexible ISO: A shooting mode that allows you to record S-Log material by adjusting the exposure settings including ISO sensitivity according to the shooting scene.
Adds the main menu, which allows you to access quickly the items you need.
Changes layout for a movie, which is information and icons overlapped pictures on the movie standby screen.
Allows you to display a function menu by swiping upward on the monitor on the shooting standby screen.
Allows Timecode input with the multi/micro USB terminal. You can set the timecode with the source equipment.
Note: You will need a dedicated adapter cable, which is sold separately, to connect to the timecode source equipment.
Adds the Monitor Flip Direction feature which can select reversed display of image and menu screens depending on how the monitor is opened and oriented.
Improves the operational stability of the camera.

TTArtisan 50mm f/2 Announced

TTArtisan announced the TTArtisan 50mm f/2 last night with a picture-based press release. The TTArtisan 50mm f/2 should be available on Amazon and B&H Photo soon.

Portrait-length Lens: The TTartisan 50mm F2 Lens is designed for Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. The lens is compact with a weight of about 200g, making it ideal for street photography and other everyday shooting applications.
Bright Aperture: Bright f/2 maximum aperture suits working in low-light conditions and also affords greater control over the depth of field. Additionally, a 10-blade diaphragm is featured and contributes a smooth bokeh quality.
Excellent Optical Design: 6 elements in 5 groups, including 2 high refraction index elements, which can effectively control spherical aberrations.
Manual Focus Design: the 50mm f/2 has a manual focus design, capable of focusing as close as 50cm away.
Clicked Aperture Ring: The clicked aperture ring is stepped with the right amount of resistance and click, marking on full stops from F/2 to F/16.
