Sony isn’t the only company with an entry level full frame camera. The Sony a7III compares rather well to the Canon 6D Mark II and Nikon D750 and will likely lead to many switchers because Sony isn’t holding back their technology. The Sony a7III could cannibalize some a9 sales since the AF performance is equivalent to the Sony a9 and it could even lead to the early release of a Sony a9II.
Generally speaking, Sony has a tendency of refreshing their first generation cameras quickly, so this little budget a9 that they are calling the a7III could be a sign that Sony plans to refresh the a9 soon. It would be great if this refresh came in the form of a massive firmware update similar to how Fujifilm does things, but I think they will release the Sony a9II if Sony a9 sales slow down substantially. CameraSize.com included the Sony a7III in their database last night so all of these photos are accurately sized. Canon and Nikon will have to do a lot better if they want to compete with the new Sony a7III, which could fairly be compared with much higher end cameras like the Canon 5D Mark IV, but for now, this is how they stack up.
