If you’re looking for high-resolution performance at a reasonable price the Sony a7R lineup is king and it even compares well to large sensor cameras, but the Sony a7RIV isn’t a huge step up over the a7RIII. If Sony is approaching the limits of there technological capabilities with full-frame sensors it might be time for Sony to step up into a 44 x 33 sensor like the Fujifilm GFX has since the senors size has proven to have room to grow.
There are also other high-resolution cameras on the horizon from companies like Canon and Nikon that want to compete with the Sony a7R line too, but for now, Sony has a safe lead. Of course beyond senor performance, Sony also continues to have a substantial lead in AF performance regardless of sensor size, which some might value more than sensor performance.
