Capture One Express Discontinued January 30, 2024

Capture One Express is being discontinued according to an email recently sent out and they are pushing a subscription model hard now. If you want to buy a perpetual Capture One Pro license you can do so here. There are also other options we recommend below and of course, there is always Lightroom.

I know a lot of users found value in the Fujifilm/Sony Capture One Express software that was first released years ago, but greed seems to get the better of most companies unless end users reject subscriptions so here we are. You can read the email and associated FAQ below:

Express is coming to an end

We’re constantly working to improve our tools for you. And to give you the best creative and collaborative experience, we need to focus on our main products. This means that starting January 30, 2024, Capture One Express will no longer be available.

You’ll be able to use Express until January 30, and all your images and edits will also be available until this date.

Starting January 30, you won’t be able to download or use Express from our website. Also, you can’t activate any Express license keys after January 30, even though you downloaded the license key before this date.

We’ll end all support for Express after January 30.

You can easily transfer your images and edits from Express to Pro. Just open your Express Catalog in Pro and keep creating.

You have three options:

a. Export your edits to TIFF, JPEG, or other formats.
b. Export your RAW files with or without adjustment metadata by choosing Export Originals.
c. Access Finder (macOS) or File Explorer (Windows) and extract them manually.

Capture One Express Deprecation FAQ

Why is Capture One Express being deprecated?
We have made the decision to focus our efforts on our core products, such as Capture One Pro and mobile apps.

What can I do with my pictures now that I don’t have access to my catalog?
After Capture One Express has been deprecated on January 30, you can still access your images, but not within the Capture One application. See How to access your catalog images outside of Capture One. Alternatively, consider a free 30-day trial of Capture One Pro for continued catalog access and image export options.

Can I still access Capture One Express, and will my license still work?
All Capture One Express license keys will be disabled after January 30, 2024. To continue using Capture One, you’ll need a license key for a current product, such as Capture One Pro.

Can I run Capture One Express on an old computer?
No, all Capture One Express license keys will be disabled and will not be valid, regardless of the hardware used.

Will there be a cheaper subscription or a perpetual license to replace Express, and will I get a discount on Capture One Pro?
Yes, as an Express user, we offer a discount on Capture One Pro for both subscription and perpetual licenses. Sign up here to receive the discount.

How can I ensure this won’t happen to my other Capture One products?
Refer to our End User License Agreement (EULA) that applies to paid products: Capture One EULA.

How do I remove myself from your customer database if I don’t want to take advantage of any offers?
