CineD interviewed Nobutatsu Takahashi-san From Sony at IPC 2022. Below is a summary of the interview:
- The Alpha and Cinema camera team are one team right now
- The Cine Alta is at the top of the cine line, followed by FX9, FX6, and FX3, and the FR7 coming
- The FR7 is basically an FX6
- There is some overlap with the a7SIII and FX3, but the operation side is completely different
- People picking FX3 love film production
- Sony listens to its customers to develop products
- In the future, nothing is impossible, so we could see an electronic variable ND in the future in a small body
- Computational power keeps increasing so those powers will be used to create a new way of doing computational filmmaking in the future in camera and with editing software
- FR7 provides a unique connected video environment that is tablet-driven
- Sony could release a software update to let the FR7 track people by moving the camera after them in the future
- There is a market between FX9 and VENICE cameras
- The cine line will grow with creators
