Sony Camera’s Are No Longer Ideal For Astrophotography

Ian Norman of the Lonelyspeck.com wrote an open letter to Sony about their “Star Eater” noise reduction issue. You can read the full letter here. If TLDR firmware 3.30 on the a7RII and 2.10 on the a7SII change Sony’s noise reduction algorithm in a way that removes starts from 4 second and longer exposures. Hopefully, Sony issues a firmware fix soon.
