I think most photographers find lens design interesting, but very few will ever take the time to go beyond creating a pinhole camera themselves. Mathieu Stern’s 3D printed lens is one of a kind and it doesn’t look half bad on his Sony a7II for a print.
His lens definitely has some unique character in his sample photos, but I think his printed lens is best for portraits because it doesnt resolve distant subjects well.
