Sony Alpha 1 Video Hack Follow Up Makes The Sony A1 Even Better
Gerald Undone posted a quick video with some of his findings the other week. Now he has put it together into a longer video with some additional findings that you can watch above or you can read the key points below:
- VG-C4EM vertical grip can give you almost dummy battery level performance
- Can record 80-90 minutes on a single internal battery normally which fills about a 128gb SD card
- Dummy battery there really is no limit for recording time at 8k 24p
- You can do 8k with v60 SD cards pretty much unlimited
- The VG-C4EM can take two or one battery which will give you about double the runtime
- With the VG-C4EM you can record for 2hrs 45m 8k 24p
- The camera will get very hot during this time and you will need to leave the screen out because if you have it out and put it down around 2hr it will shut off
- The high temp shut off is needed for these results
- The high temp shut off is really for tripod use only
- If you use two 128gb cards and the battery grip you can fill the cards and kill the batteries in one shot
- You probably won’t get the same results in the hot sun
- If you use USB-C you might get worse performance with the battery in the camera (Probably heats up the battery in the camera), but it is fine with the grip
- USB-C + Battery grip he was able to record for 3hr 15-30m or so and it didn’t overheat and probably would have run longer, but it was quite hot
- The most economical solution might be to use the grip with one battery and a USB-C cord
- All testing was done in a room temperature enviornment
- More about leaving your camera in 8k internal when recording externally regardless of your external recording resolution for the best image quality
- If you have your camera set to 8k internally your battery life is worse than if you have it set to 4k internally because the camera is downsampling the image from 8k to 4k regardless of if you are recording internally or not
- If you set it to 1080p internal and 4k external the image on the external gets worse
- If you set your resolution high internally and low externally it just looks better in general
