Sensor Top Glass Testing on Sony APS-C Sensor: Dust, Dirt, Oils, and Even Knife Testing
Photographers can be a bit obsessive about scratches, but most will never notice the scratch unless reselling their equipment, but how durable is the sensor? Arthur tries to find out above and below is a summary.
- Arthur R did this video due to viewers complaining about him leaving his camera sensor uncovered in previous videos
- He never worried about dust on the sensor because he finds them easy to clean
- For the experiment, he taped off an APS-C censor purchased online into 4 parts
- Put dust on one part and rubbed it in with a qtip and then used a blower on it and cleaned it, but there were no scratches
- Dirt on the second part and rubbed it in with a qtip and then cleaned it with a blower and swab like the previous and once again no scratches
- The third part was oils from your fingers and he cleaned it with a dry swab without issue
- The final quadrant of the sensor he used an X-Acto knife starting light and then going harder, which did leave some marks, but they were easier to spot on the tape
- Everything including the adhesive came off without issue, but the knife did leave some marks
- Start with cleaning mode on your camera, but using a blower followed by a swab should clean anything off your sensor that might be leftover.
