Sony World Photography Awards Announces Alpha Female Award In 2020 Open Competition



The Sony World Photography Awards has announced the Alpha Female Award as part of the 2020 SWPA Open competition. The winner will be announced at the Sony World Photography Awards night in London. Deadline to enter is January 7, 2020. See the full announcement below and click here to enter.

Alpha Female Award: To celebrate the engaging photographic work created by women worldwide, Sony US announces the Alpha Female Award. The prize recognizes leading female photographers entering the Sony World Photography Awards Open competition. Aiming to promote international photographers embracing a range of subject matter, this Award acknowledges the rich diversity of photography today.

The winner receives a range of Sony digital imaging equipment and their image will be displayed at the Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House in London. The winner’s work will be displayed alongside a carefully curated selection of recent imagery by the creators and mentors from the Sony Alpha female US program.

The recipient of the Alpha Female Award will be announced on April 16, 2020, at the 2020 Sony World Photography Awards night in London.

All female photographers entering a single image to any of the ten categories in the Sony World Photography Awards’ Open competition will be considered for the Alpha Female Award. Categories to choose from are Architecture, Culture, Creative, Motion, Landscape, Natural World & Wildlife, Portraiture, Still Life, Travel and Street Photography.

Submissions are judged by a panel of experts. Images will be rewarded for their power to communicate a visual narrative with excellent technical and creative skills.

Sony’s Alpha Female program focuses on creating opportunities for professional female photographers and videographers working in the United States and fostering a richer and more diverse industry.

Six female creators are accepted into the six-month long Alpha Female Creator-in-Residence Program, during which they each received over $30,000 in grants and equipment, mentorship with an award-winning Sony Artisan of Imagery, and numerous opportunities to raise their profiles in the photography and filmmaking industries.
