BCN Report Sony Winning Mirrorless Camera War So Far

Canon and Nikon haven’t been a match for Sony yet according to BCN’s latest report. You can read the translated report below:

Canon and Nikon have lost their full-size wars this year

A full-size mirrorless single-lens battle that began last fall. Sony is overwhelming at the current stage, which has been over a year. In September last year, Nikon launched the Z7, Nikon entered the market with Z mount, Canon entered RF mount, Panasonic, Sigma and Leica with L mount. I challenged Sony, the pioneer of full-size mirrorless. However, Canon and Nikon have already been brilliantly defeated, partly because they have been wary of fighting against the full-size model that is being developed with a single-lens reflex camera. Even if the full size model of mirrorless and single lens reflex camera is added up, the result is that only Sony is growing.

When comparing the year-on-year rate of sales and price of the entire interchangeable lens type for one year from November 2018 to October 2019, Sony is the total number of full-size cameras that combine SLR and mirrorless Maintaining double-digit growth of 118.9% and 117.3% of the previous year. The number of Canons we pursued was 106.6%, which was higher than the previous year, but the amount was 92.8%, which was lower than the previous year. The two companies that challenged Sony could not cover the rapidly shrinking full-size SLR with the introduction of a full-size mirrorless camera. As a result, Sony, who is fighting almost mirrorless only, took the first place in the share of the manufacturer of full-size cameras from Canon, which has a strong SLR.

Even more serious is the market of less than full size, which accounts for 90% of sales. Again, the only three companies in the top three grew, with both Canon and Nikon showing a two-digit decline across the board. While the entire market is rapidly shifting to mirrorless models, Canon and Nikon, which run the top two interchangeable lenses, have a red light. Canon’s share of the entire interchangeable-lens camera manufacturer is 41.7%, maintaining the position of 4%. 2nd place Nikon is 16.9%, and Canon is draining a lot, while 3rd place Sony is 15.8%.

Canon and Nikon lost the switch to mirrorless. Judging from the large share of Namaji SLR, the judgment was delayed. Sony, with its mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera, built not only the camera body lineup but also a wide range of lenses. Although there was a brand called Walkman, sales of MD (MiniDisc) were strong at that time, so the shift to digital audio failed. Sony has taken away the share of the portable audio player by Apple’s iPod. I didn’t step on the camera with the camera. (BCN, Ichiro Dogoe)
