Sony a7RIII Holds Its Own Against New Fujifilm GFX100

ISO 100 Comparison

Image Resource added the Fujifilm GFX100 to the Comparometer and the results are surprising. I scaled all of the images up to the GFX100’s resolution and down to the X-T3’s resolution to see how they compare and the GFX100 looks to be a little softer than the Sony a7RIII when scaling to 100MP and there is slightly less difference at 24MP.

The Fujifilm GFX100GFX50SXT3Phase One XF 100MPa7RIII5DSRD850, and S1R represent some of the best cameras on the market at this time, yet the results are very homogenous when shooting a bland flat scene like the test seen above and below. When shooting at 12,800 ISO the Sony a7RIII pulls ahead even through Fujifilm promised usable 100,000 ISO, which is disappointing.

The future Sony a7SIII and Sony a7RIV will likely put more distance between the GFX100 and Sony when it comes to resolving power, but it is still yet to be seen how well the GFX100 will perform dynamic range wise. I am buying the GFX100 for FujiAddict and because I love the look of medium format, but I really hope Fujifilm improves their JPEG files some before launch because I am not impressed by the performance of the camera yet.
