DPRTV: Sony a6600 vs Fujifilm X-T4 vs Canon M6 Mark II vs Nikon Z50

Fujifilm has long been the king of APS-C, but now Canon and Nikon are coming for Fujifilm alongside Sony. DPRTV has made a video about how they stack up and below is a summary of the above video.

Handling

  1. Fujifilm X-T4: Largest of the bunch, but everything makes sense and feels good
  2. Nikon Z50: Great grip and everything makes sense
  3. Canon M6 II: Nice dials and buttons but the grip is too small and compact
  4. Sony a6600: Feels very tight around the grip

Displays

  1. Fujifilm X-T4: Better specs across the board and fully articulating touch screen
  2. Nikon Z50: Similar to the Canon but includes the EVF and is setup better
  3. Canon M6 II: Better touch screen and quality back panel then the Sony with a removable EVF that should be included
  4. Sony a6600: 2.3m dot EVF and under a million dot back pannel is old

Autofocus

  1. Sony a6600: Still the AF king
  2. Canon M6 II: Hands everything very well
  3. Fujifilm X-T4: Much improved and performs very well but not as sticky tracking
  4. Nikon Z50: Works well with excilent tracking, but inconsistent AF

Image Quality

  1. Fujifilm X-T4: Very modern with lots to like and a fast readout with a useful electronic shutter
  2. Canon M6 II: Great sensor without IBIS
  3. Sony a6600: Another old sensor, but it has good low light and dynamic range with IBIS
  4. Nikon Z50: Sensor has a lot to like but its an older sensor and no IBIS

Battery Life

  1. Sony a6600: Sony Z battery is king of the hill still and this battery is great
  2. Fujifilm X-T4: Great new battery that lasts a long time and supports USB charging
  3. Nikon Z50: Slightly higher than the Canon with USB charging
  4. Canon M6 II: Lowest CIPA rating of the batch and no USB charging

Video

  1. Fujifilm X-T4: Very easy choice because the X-T4 is an amazing video camera that does 10-bit and has 4k60p along with Eterna, but USB-C dongle for headphones is kind of annoying
  2. Sony a6600: Headphone jack, mic jack, profiles, etc… very competent video camera, but always 8-bit
  3. Nikon Z50: 4k with no headphone jack
  4. Canon M6 II: Very soft 4k and if you use the EVF you lose the hot shoe plus there is no headphone jack

Overall Ranking

  1. Fujifilm X-T4: The most expensive, but it is a total package as a flagship camera with lots of glass etc…
  2. Sony a6600: very professional but feels very entry-level still
  3. Canon M6 II: Fast shooting and focusing, but feels like Canon isn’t supporting again so hard to recommend
  4. Nikon Z50: Good camera but doesn’t get photographers excited and Nikon seems to be half-hearted since they expect you to use the full-frame lenses which makes it hard to recommend investing in this system
