Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD FE Made in Vietnam and Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD FE Made in China

I received the Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD FE today from B&H Photo and was a bit surprised to find that the Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD FE is made in Vietnam, while the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD FE is made in China. Further, the hood for the 17-28mm is made in the Philipines and the 28-75mm hood is made in China.

The two lenses feel very much like they were designed to feel identical, but I wish the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD FE zoomed internally like the Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD FE. Both lenses compare well to G master glass and it looks like Tamron improved the 17-28mm ever so slightly from what they learned from 28-75mm feedback. Check retailers frequently, because there are a few lenses out there still if you’re interested in receiving one soon, but it looks like the big three are sold out at this point, so it will be a while before more 17-28mm ship.
