Photons to Photos Estimates Sony a9 Dynamic Range Compared to Nikon D5 and Canon 1DX Mark II, Plus Daily a9 Coverage

Photons to Photos has quickly become the go-to place for technical camera information first since first being featured on FujiAddict. Their estimated dynamic range of the Sony a9 puts it in a neck and neck battle with the Nikon D5 and Canon 1DX Mark II. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if their estimates are little on the safe side, but we will see when the camera ships next month.

In some ways, the Sony a9 is excessively fast. When I shoot my Fujifilm X-T2 at full speed I always regret the number of frames I have to sort through and it’s limited to 14fps. According to early impressions filling your camera buffer leads to a 2-minute wait for it to clear, which seems a bit excessive, I wonder if this would improve if both card slots were UHS-2.

There are also now two new Sony a9 Bundle available. One is for action shooters, while the other simply includes accessories.
