Sony a9 Embargo Lifted: Content Roundup Refresh Throughout The Day (Last Updated 4:50)

Sony lifted their embargo on images today and we are seeing some of the first images form the Sony a9 and while it seems to live up to much of the hype there are a few limitation. Extreme lighting situations can cause some banding, but it will be very rare, flash sync speed is limited with the electronic shutter, no video profiles and the image buffer taking a while to clear are a few of the early issues reported. That being said the Sony a9 does compete well with the Nikon D5 and Canon 1DX Mark II.

From the early post embargo reviews it seems almost certain we will see a Sony a9R and Sony a9S. We might even see XQD versions in the future too. I’m not sure how Sony will price these cameras at this time, but almost every reviewer is openly talking about these cameras. We already have a Sony a9 Owners Group to help owners collaborate without a lot of noise in addition to a Sony a9 Page. These groups will also be for people interested in Sony a9R/a9S content, because there is no point in segmenting the cameras further when the point of these groups is to avoid clutter. The Sony a9 system might not change the photography world this generation, but if it doesn’t the Mark II certainly will.
